Turbulence length scales

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009844

Characteristic dimensions that describe the size of eddies within a turbulent flow. These scales range from large eddies, which extract energy from the mean flow, to small eddies, where kinetic energy is dissipated into heat. Examples include the integral length scale, representing the largest eddies, and the Kolmogorov length scale, representing the smallest eddies.
