Eddy continuum
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005268
A theoretical concept describing the continuous range of eddy sizes present in turbulent flows, from the largest eddies that extract energy from the mean flow down to the smallest eddies where kinetic energy is dissipated into heat. This continuum is characterized by a cascade of energy from larger to smaller scales. The Kolmogorov microscale defines the smallest eddies in the inertial subrange.
