Buoyant subrange
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004091
A range of eddy sizes within a turbulent flow where buoyancy forces are a dominant factor in the energy cascade, particularly in stably stratified conditions. In this subrange, the kinetic energy of turbulent eddies is converted into potential energy as fluid parcels move against the buoyancy force. This concept is relevant for understanding turbulence in the stable atmospheric boundary layer.
