Buoyancy wave

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004088

A type of internal gravity wave that occurs in a stably stratified fluid, where buoyancy acts as the restoring force. These waves propagate through the atmosphere or ocean, transporting energy and momentum vertically and horizontally. Mountain waves, generated by airflow over topography, are a common example of atmospheric buoyancy waves.
