Buoyancy frequency

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004084

The natural oscillation frequency of a fluid parcel displaced vertically in a stably stratified fluid, also known as the Brunt-Väisälä frequency. It represents the rate at which a parcel would oscillate if perturbed from its equilibrium level in a statically stable atmosphere or ocean. In the atmosphere, it is typically expressed in radians per second or cycles per hour.
