Brunt-Väisälä frequency

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004056

The natural oscillation frequency of a parcel of fluid displaced vertically within a stably stratified environment. It represents the rate at which a vertically displaced air parcel will oscillate if returned to its original position. This frequency is a key indicator of atmospheric stability and is often expressed in radians per second or cycles per second.
