Absolute stability

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003191

A state of the atmosphere where a parcel of air, when displaced vertically, tends to return to its original position, regardless of whether it is saturated or unsaturated. This occurs when the environmental lapse rate is less than the saturated adiabatic lapse rate. In such conditions, vertical air movements are suppressed, leading to stable atmospheric conditions.
