Process lapse rate
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008165
The rate at which the temperature of an air parcel changes as it moves vertically through the atmosphere, undergoing an adiabatic or pseudoadiabatic process. This rate is determined by the thermodynamic properties of the air parcel itself, rather than the surrounding environmental temperature. The dry adiabatic lapse rate is approximately 9.8 degrees Celsius per kilometer.
