Adiabatic temperature gradient
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003301
The rate at which the temperature of an air parcel changes as it moves vertically through the atmosphere without exchanging heat with its environment. For dry air, this rate is approximately 9.8 degrees Celsius per kilometer, known as the dry adiabatic lapse rate. The moist adiabatic lapse rate is lower due to latent heat release from condensation.
