Moist-adiabatic process
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007370
An adiabatic process in the atmosphere where a parcel of air rises, cools, and becomes saturated, leading to condensation and the release of latent heat. This latent heat partially offsets the cooling due to expansion, causing the parcel to cool at a slower rate than a dry adiabatic process. The moist adiabatic lapse rate is typically around 6 K per kilometer, varying with temperature and pressure.
