Natural frequency

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007478

The inherent oscillation rate of a system when it is disturbed from its equilibrium and allowed to oscillate freely without external forcing or damping. In atmospheric science, this applies to phenomena like planetary waves or internal gravity waves. For a simple pendulum, the natural frequency depends only on its length and the acceleration due to gravity.
