Foucault pendulum
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005735
A large, heavy pendulum designed to demonstrate the Earth's rotation through the apparent precession of its swing plane. The pendulum's plane of oscillation remains fixed in inertial space, while the Earth rotates beneath it. The rate of precession depends on the latitude, being fastest at the poles and zero at the equator.
