Precession rate
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008102
The speed at which the Earth's axis of rotation slowly changes its orientation in space, tracing out a cone over thousands of years. This astronomical phenomenon, known as axial precession, influences the timing of the solstices and equinoxes relative to Earth's orbit, thereby affecting long-term climate patterns. The current precession rate is approximately 50.3 arcseconds per year, completing a cycle in about 25,800 years.
