Equatorial bulge
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005415
The slight outward swelling of a rotating celestial body, such as Earth, around its equator, caused by centrifugal force. This results in the Earth's equatorial diameter being slightly larger than its polar diameter. The equatorial bulge influences the Earth's gravitational field and is a factor in the precession of the equinoxes.
