Centrifugal force

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004233

An apparent force that acts outward on a body moving in a circular path, perceived in a rotating reference frame. It is equal in magnitude and opposite in direction to the centripetal force. In atmospheric dynamics, this fictitious force is considered when analyzing air parcels moving along curved trajectories, such as around a high or low pressure system.
