Supergeostrophic wind

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009407

An atmospheric wind that blows faster than the geostrophic wind, which is the theoretical wind speed resulting from a balance between the pressure gradient force and the Coriolis force. This condition occurs when the air parcel experiences a net acceleration, often due to a weakening of the Coriolis force or an increase in the pressure gradient. Supergeostrophic winds are frequently observed in the upper troposphere within jet streams.
