Subgeostrophic wind

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009340

A wind speed that is less than the geostrophic wind speed, which would be expected if only the Coriolis force and pressure gradient force were in balance. This condition often occurs in regions of cyclonic curvature or near the surface where friction reduces wind speed. It results in air flowing slightly towards lower pressure.
