Supergradient wind

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009408

A wind that blows at a speed greater than the gradient wind, which is the theoretical wind speed resulting from a balance between the pressure gradient force, Coriolis force, and centrifugal force. Supergradient flow occurs in regions of anticyclonic curvature, where the centrifugal force adds to the Coriolis force, allowing for higher wind speeds. This condition is typically found around the periphery of high-pressure systems.
