Subgradient wind
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009341
A wind that blows at a speed less than the gradient wind, which is the theoretical wind speed when the pressure gradient, Coriolis, and centrifugal forces are in balance. This condition typically occurs in cyclonic flow, where the centrifugal force acts in the same direction as the Coriolis force. It leads to air parcels moving slightly inward toward the center of low pressure.
