Relative coordinate system

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008501

A frame of reference that is in motion, typically rotating, with respect to an absolute or inertial coordinate system. In meteorology, the most common relative coordinate system is fixed to the rotating Earth. Forces such as the Coriolis force and centrifugal force arise when describing motion within such a system.
