Celestial equator

An imaginary great circle on the celestial sphere, lying in the same plane as the Earth's equator. It is an extension of the Earth's equator into space, dividing the celestial sphere into northern and southern hemispheres. This reference line is used in the equatorial coordinate system for locating celestial objects.
