Equator
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005412
An imaginary great circle on the surface of a rotating celestial body, such as Earth, that is equidistant from the geographic poles and divides the body into Northern and Southern Hemispheres. On Earth, it is located at 0 degrees latitude and is the region where the sun's rays are most direct, leading to consistently warm temperatures. The equator is a key reference line for geographical coordinates and atmospheric circulation patterns.
