Thermal equator

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009581

An imaginary line connecting points of highest mean annual temperature around the globe. It generally lies north of the geographic equator due to the greater landmass in the Northern Hemisphere, which heats up more readily than oceans. The position of the thermal equator shifts seasonally, influencing global atmospheric circulation patterns.
