Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006362
An imaginary line encircling the Earth that connects points of maximum annual rainfall. This line generally follows the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), where warm, moist air converges and rises, leading to abundant precipitation. The hyetal equator is not fixed but shifts seasonally with the movement of the ITCZ.
