Celestial pole

Either of the two points where the Earth's axis of rotation, extended indefinitely, intersects the celestial sphere. The North Celestial Pole is near Polaris, and the South Celestial Pole is in the constellation Octans. These points serve as fixed references for celestial navigation and astronomical observations.
