Current pole
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004812
A simple device used to measure the speed and direction of surface water currents. It consists of a weighted pole, designed to float vertically with most of its length submerged, minimizing the effect of wind. By observing the pole's drift relative to a fixed point or a vessel over a measured period, an observer can calculate the velocity of the near-surface current.
