Current profiler
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004813
A specialized instrument that measures the speed and direction of fluid currents at multiple depths or altitudes simultaneously. Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs) are a common type, using sound waves to determine water velocity through the Doppler effect. These devices provide detailed vertical profiles of currents in oceans, lakes, and estuaries.
