Wind profiler
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010257
A ground-based remote sensing instrument that uses Doppler radar to measure the vertical profile of wind speed and direction in the atmosphere. It transmits pulses of electromagnetic energy and detects the backscatter from atmospheric irregularities, such as turbulence or hydrometeors. These instruments provide continuous, high-resolution wind data up to several kilometers in altitude.
