Retroreflector

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008553

A device or surface designed to reflect incident radiation directly back towards its source, maintaining the original direction of the incoming beam. In atmospheric science, these are used in remote sensing applications, such as satellite-based lidar, to provide a strong return signal for atmospheric profiling. They are also used in ground-based instruments for calibration and atmospheric path measurements.
