Laser
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006883
A device that generates a beam of coherent electromagnetic radiation through the stimulated emission of photons from an energized medium. The light produced is monochromatic, meaning it consists of a single wavelength, and highly collimated, traveling in a narrow, parallel beam. Lasers are used in atmospheric science for remote sensing applications, including lidar systems that measure aerosols, clouds, and wind speeds.
