Diode laser
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005026
A semiconductor device that emits coherent light through stimulated emission, commonly used in atmospheric sensing. It operates by passing an electric current through a p-n junction, causing electrons and holes to recombine and release photons. These lasers are employed in lidar systems for measuring atmospheric constituents like water vapor and aerosols.
