Differential absorption lidar thermometer

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004979

A remote sensing instrument that measures atmospheric temperature profiles by using the differential absorption lidar (DIAL) technique. It transmits two laser wavelengths, one strongly absorbed by a temperature-sensitive atmospheric constituent (like oxygen) and another weakly absorbed. By analyzing the ratio of backscattered signals, the instrument can infer temperature variations along the laser path.
