Laser radar
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006885
A remote sensing technique, also known as lidar (light detection and ranging), that uses pulsed laser light to measure distances to targets and characterize atmospheric properties. It operates by emitting laser pulses and detecting the backscattered light from aerosols, clouds, or atmospheric gases. Lidar systems can provide high-resolution vertical profiles of atmospheric constituents and wind speed.
