Large-scale weather situation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006882
The overall pattern of atmospheric circulation and pressure distribution over a broad geographical area, typically spanning hundreds to thousands of kilometers. This synoptic-scale view includes the positions and characteristics of features like high and low-pressure systems, frontal boundaries, and jet streams. Analysis of the large-scale situation provides the context for forecasting weather over a period of several days and understanding the evolution of smaller-scale phenomena.
