Atmospheric sounding

A measurement of atmospheric properties, such as temperature, humidity, and wind speed, as a function of altitude. This data is collected by instruments like radiosondes carried aloft by balloons, or by remote sensing techniques from satellites or ground-based radar. Soundings provide a vertical profile of the atmosphere, which is used for weather forecasting and research.
