Aircraft sounding
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003399
The process of collecting vertical profiles of atmospheric parameters, such as temperature, humidity, and wind, using instruments carried aloft by an aircraft. Unlike balloon-borne radiosondes, aircraft soundings can often be conducted repeatedly along a specific flight path or at different altitudes. This method provides detailed atmospheric data for research and forecasting, particularly in complex weather situations.
