Upper-air observation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010828

A measurement of atmospheric conditions at altitudes above the Earth's surface, providing data on pressure, temperature, humidity, and wind velocity. These observations are primarily obtained using instruments carried aloft by weather balloons (radiosondes) or through remote sensing by satellites and ground-based profilers. The data are plotted on thermodynamic diagrams like the Skew-T log-P chart for analysis.
