Upper-air disturbance
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009910
A perturbation in the flow patterns of the upper atmosphere, often characterized by a trough or ridge in the geopotential height contours. These disturbances can propagate eastward and influence surface weather by inducing vertical motion and cyclogenesis. They are a key component in the development and movement of mid-latitude weather systems.
