Upper air

The portion of the atmosphere above the Earth's surface, typically referring to altitudes above the planetary boundary layer. This region is characterized by less direct influence from surface features and processes. Meteorological observations in the upper air are primarily obtained through radiosondes, aircraft, and satellites.
