Upgradient flux
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009904
The movement of a substance from a region of lower concentration to a region of higher concentration, against its concentration gradient. This process requires an external energy source, as it goes against the natural tendency for diffusion. In atmospheric science, this can occur in turbulent flows where eddies transport scalars against their mean gradient.
