Kite sounding

A method of obtaining vertical profiles of atmospheric variables by attaching meteorological instruments to a kite and raising it through the atmosphere. This technique provides measurements of temperature, humidity, and wind at different heights. It was an early form of atmospheric profiling, preceding balloon-borne radiosondes.
