Acoustic ocean current meter

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003244

An instrument that measures water velocity by transmitting acoustic pulses and detecting the Doppler shift of the reflected signals from particles in the water. It typically uses multiple transducers to determine the three-dimensional current vector. These meters are deployed on moorings, buoys, or mounted on vessels to provide continuous current profiles.
