Acoustic lens
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003243
A device that refracts or diffracts sound waves to focus or collimate them, analogous to how an optical lens works with light. In atmospheric science, it is used in acoustic sounding instruments to direct the transmitted sound beam or to concentrate received sound energy onto a sensor. An acoustic lens can be constructed from materials with a different speed of sound than air or by using a phased array of transducers.
