Acoustic reverberation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003252

The persistence of sound in an enclosed space or medium after the direct sound source has stopped, caused by multiple reflections from boundaries. In the atmosphere, this phenomenon occurs when sound waves encounter and reflect off atmospheric layers, terrain, or other obstacles. The decay time of reverberation is often quantified by the reverberation time, which is the time it takes for the sound pressure level to decrease by 60 decibels.
