Acoustic array
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003235
A system of multiple microphones or other acoustic sensors arranged in a specific geometric pattern to detect and analyze sound waves traveling through the atmosphere. By analyzing the time differences of a sound's arrival at each sensor, the array can determine the direction and speed of the sound source. This technique is applied in sodar systems to profile wind speed and direction at different altitudes.
