Sodar
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009007
A sonic detection and ranging system, an instrument that uses sound waves to measure wind speed and direction, as well as atmospheric turbulence, in the lower atmosphere. It operates by emitting acoustic pulses and analyzing the backscattered sound. Sodar systems can provide continuous wind profiles up to several hundred meters above the ground.
