Acoustic radar
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003246
A remote sensing instrument that uses sound waves to probe the lower atmosphere, detecting variations in temperature, humidity, and wind speed. It operates by emitting acoustic pulses and analyzing the backscattered echoes from atmospheric inhomogeneities. This technique provides continuous profiles of atmospheric boundary layer structure, often used in air quality and micrometeorological studies.
