Acoustic rain gauge
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003247
A device that measures rainfall by detecting the sound produced by raindrops impacting a surface or by analyzing the acoustic properties of the rain itself. It works by converting the kinetic energy of raindrops into acoustic signals, which are then processed to estimate rainfall rate and drop size distribution. These gauges can provide real-time rainfall data without moving parts.
