Optical rain gauge
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007714
A type of rain gauge that measures precipitation by detecting changes in a light beam caused by falling raindrops. These instruments often use infrared light and measure either the attenuation of the beam or the scintillation caused by drops passing through it. They can provide real-time measurements of rainfall intensity and accumulation.
