Weighing rain gauge

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010196

An instrument that measures precipitation by continuously recording the weight of accumulated rainfall or snowfall. The precipitation collects in a bucket placed on a weighing mechanism, and the change in weight is converted into a depth measurement. This type of gauge provides a continuous record of precipitation intensity and accumulation over time.
